In Vitro/In Vivo Efficacy

The anti-microbial properties of the Bactiguard® coating, has been proven for clinically relevant strains of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as for fungi.

In vitro test based on ASTM E2149-01 (Dynamic shake flask test); Test material was suspended in artificial urine containing a known number of micro-organisms (clinical isolates) and agitated for 24 h. The Bactiguard® coated sample shows substantial bacterial reduction. Data on file.

Toxicological testing shows that the antimicrobial property of the Bactiguard® coating is not achieved at the expense of its biocompatibility1.

• Mouse fibroblasts; extracts from the Bactiguard® coated catheter did not show cytotoxic reactions.
• Short and long term implantation studies; no differences in biological reactions compared to control.
• Hemocompatibility; no tendency of increased platelet adhesion due to the Bactiguard® coating.
