Bactiguard collaborates with The Innovation Center at Karolinska University Hospital for the future of healthcare

Bactiguard AB has signed a contract with The Innovation Center at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge, Sweden, for collaboration in the field of Life Science, with focus on hospital related infections and in other related care processes.

Faults in hospital care claim approximately 3,000 lives annually in Sweden, alone. Care acquired infections are among the biggest threats to hospital patients in Sweden and around the world, largely due to the increase of bacterial drug resistance.

The Karolinska University Hospital is working towards better benefits for healthcare with increased patient safety, and in contributing to increased health care effectiveness and accessibility. The Karolinska University Hospital has determined to make the area of health care infections a top priority.

  • This contract with Bactiguard is an important example of how the collaboration between health care and the business community can grow, to achieve greater patient safety and more efficient care processes, according to Professor Johan Permert from the Innovation Center.

The Innovation Center works to strengthen the triad, Healthcare-University-Business, in all the collaborations that it initiates and supports, helping to create new views on the development and change in health care, as well as implementing new methods and medtech products to health facilities.

  • This coalition with Karolinska University Hospital has given Bactiguard the chance to further develop and study the clinical evidence of its products at one of the world´s leading hospitals, says Christian Kinch, CEO of Bactiguard.

Bactiguard is also working to strengthen its presence in Skåne, the southernmost province of Sweden, through establishing a strategic marketing office in Medicon Village, now one of Europe´s largest science parks. In doing so, we will create collaboration in 2 nodes, with complementary forms of competence, which will help strengthen Sweden´s competitive roll in the medtech industry, both nationally and internationally within Life Science, according to Ewa Ställdal, vice president of Bactiguard.
