Bactiguard® is entering the Russian Market together with its new partner Intermedservice

Stockholm, Moscow January 2013.

The Swedish medtech company Bactiguard has signed an exclusive co-operation with Intermedservice, IMS, one of the largest healthcare distributors in Russia with a turnover of more than €300 million. Intermedservice is present in Russia and the whole CIS region. IMS has now the exclusivity to sell the entire line of Bactiguard´s products on the Russian medical device market, which is estimated to show strong growth over the next couple of years.

For Bactiguard, who signed similar contracts with China and India last year, this is a very important milestone. This almost completes the coverage of the BRIC-countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China), where only Brazil remains uncovered, but is a target for 2013. With distribution agreements set for India, China and now also Russia, the potential for continued increase in sales is very large.

“Bactiguard´s unique coating that prevents bacteria from adhesion and forming of biofilms has a large role to fill in these markets” says Olof Sandén, Vice President of Bactiguard, who is very happy and proud of the cooperation with Intermedservice, IMS. “IMS will open up the Russian market to us and that we together can improve patient safety in Russia with our infection protection portfolio. Health care associated infections (HCAI) are the fourth largest cause of death in the world and we have a clinically proven solution that saves lives all over the world. I am very glad and proud that we now contribute to improved health care in this region”.

The Russian medical device market is currently worth approximately 4,9 billion US dollar and will continue to grow according to Andrey Skvortsov, MD, CEO of IMS, who embraces the cooperation with Bactiguard. “In Russia, health care associated infections and the use of antibiotics is rising. Therefore I am very much looking forward to this partnership with Bactiguard whose products not only prevent infections, but also reduces the use of antibiotics and saves health care expenditures. We are convinced that the Bactiguard products will be most welcome in the Russian Health Care system”.
