Global Wound Management webinar 2024 in collaboration with Kings College Hospital London

17 December 2024

On 22 November, we hosted our annual Global Wound Management Webinar, broadcast live from London. With over 300 participants tuning in from across Europe and Asia, the Hydrocyn Aqua concept “Clean to Heal” took a deep dive into the ongoing wound care transformation and how we can tackle current challenges in the healthcare industry.

A central theme throughout the webinar was the role of Hydrocyn Aqua, its safe and effective attributes, and how it accelerates wound healing, achieving significantly improved closure compared to the standard of care (i.e., saline). Our panel of speakers presented case studies during the event, further demonstrating its efficacy in creating optimal conditions for wound healing and how to manage hard-to-heal wounds.

The webinar was moderated by Dr. Prashanth Vas and Maureen Bates from King’s College Hospital, London, who shared their best practices in wound and diabetic foot care, highlighting the high NHS costs for wound management, totaling GBP 8.3 billion and the importance of a standard of care that every healthcare professional should follow. The session continued with Prof. Dato’ Dr. Harikrishna K. R. Nair, Director of Kuala Lumpur Hospital, provided a Malaysian perspective, emphasizing the importance of wound cleansing and how an infection can double the time to heal a wound. He also elaborated on how biofilm is present in almost 80% of chronic wounds. Therefore, cleansing helps to break down the biofilm, and in the long run, reduces the burden of higher healthcare costs.  Vice President of the Diabetic Foot Society of India, Dr. Rajesh Kesavan, presented his approach to wound cleansing from India, his use of Hydrocyn Aqua and how it facilitates biofilm degradation, fibroblast activation, and how it can improve oxygen perfusion to the wound. The webinar ended with Prof. Dr. José Ramón March García, Vice President of the Spanish Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, who discussed the health economic rationale behind the importance of wound management. He emphasized the alarming projection of over 50 million people being diagnosed with chronic wounds by 2050 and highlighted the need for the healthcare system to adopt a more preventive rather than reactive approach. Once again, the critical role of biofilm disruption was discussed, with Hydrocyn Aqua shown to reduce over 99.9999% of biofilm-forming pathogens. The session concluded with a note that practical strategies for integrating advanced solutions into clinical practice are essential. A dual strategy, where wounds are optimally prepared for healing and supported by effective biofilm management, such as with Hydrocyn Aqua, can contribute to faster recovery.
